Some artists are as talented at illustration as they are at photography, and use their abilities to create lush, immersive photo illustrations. To see what we mean, look no further than Binkski (no, not Banksy!), a U.K.-based photo-illustrator who contributes his work to Shutterstock. Binkski’s sweeping portfolio includes beautiful conceptual photos, simple and versatile vector illustrations, and even a few 3D renderings— a mix that’s very popular with customers.

We asked Binkski to share how he got started with Shutterstock, and he replied in an e-mail from Thailand, where he was traveling:

“Although I’m 50 years old, I didn’t get online or own a computer until 2006. I bought my first camera in 2007—a second-hand Canon EOS 300D. I then set off in my van for two months travelling around Europe taking photos. It was just a hobby and I didn’t think I could do much with them, but then I came across Shutterstock one day and submitted 10 photos. I didn’t think I would be accepted, so forgot all about them until several weeks later. I was amazed to find that not only was I accepted but I had also sold quite a few!”
